Unit 2 Short Film
A short 3-minute film capturing my art practice as part of my Unit 2 assessment for my MA Fine Art Digital. Thoroughly enjoyed creating this but very hard to capture everything I wanted to in just 3 minutes!
A Happy Accident
I have been preparing recently for the public voting day at The Storey in Lancaster, as the Lancaster & Morecambe Repair Cafe have been put forward for potential National Lottery funding of Pots of Possibility. In just a few short months, it has gone from a lingering idea to a group with over 500 members, 89 volunteers and a small but strong team of committee members. I have been recognised in the local news and have people contact me regularly including being asked to give a talk next week at our local Environmentalist group. It has been a whirlwind, but a privilege all the same.
Music & Lyrics
Much of my work is very multi-disciplinary. I love to experiment with different mediums, but for a long time this felt somewhat disconnected. It’s only relatively recently that I see the profound connections between all of my work - from my love of painting to my obsession with music, poetry and nature.
Approaching the canvas without certainty
Following the session where we were introduced to some of the work by William Kentridge, I began investigating more of his work. I came across his recent exhibition at Arsenale Institute for Politics of Representation in Venice, where he collaborates with curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, to premiere his new nine-episode video series, ‘Self-Portrait as a Coffee-Pot.’
Halloween Fundraiser
Earlier this week I announced a competition on my social media, which gave folk the opportunity to win an original painting of Joker that I created. The competition was simultaneously raising money on gofundme for a project which hopes to provide art workshops to young people in care or non-mainstream education throughout the district of Lancaster & Morecambe.
Exploring Cyanotype
I have recently been exploring the idea of print making in more detail, in the lead up to Grotto at CSM this November. Of course, I could simply do a print of a painting or drawing, but I have really enjoyed exploring the different forms of print during the Grotto sessions. I have previously experimented with lino prints and I did a woodblock carving and print when I lived in the canal a few years ago. I think it is important to experiment with different disciplines from time to time. As I also love photography, I happened across some cyanotype examples recently, and decided to explore it further.
Replicating Kline..
I have been delving into the world of Franz Kline as part of research for my upcoming research paper. Being particularly interested in what he was trying to portray in his work, what he hoped his work would do, or how he felt during the process, I began to consider creating some paintings of my own.

Interim Show Prep & Shoot
There was a mix of emotions, preparing for the Interim Show, and an awful lot to learn. My initial intentions were to have a physical installation at Trinity Buoy Wharf - anything else felt second best, and almost as if I had failed. Jonathan helped me to realise the logistics of getting a heavy concrete structure to London would perhaps detract from the magic of creating. I decided following a chat with him, that setting up the installation at home, and doing a photo and film shoot would be a different dynamic, and one that I would certainly enjoy.
Lancaster Craftivists
Tonight was the first group event for the Lancaster Craftivists, at the local Gregson Arts Centre. I recently set up the group to help bring attention to the Craftivist Movement in this area, whilst hopefully meeting other like-minded people within the community.
‘Rocky’ Horror Show! (Take 2)
When I visualised an opposing structure using concrete and natural wool, I was incredibly excited by the idea. I felt the interim show would be the perfect opportunity to showcase this work in progress. I didn’t quite expect the trials and tribulations of its creation though….
Functional Fibres Pt.2
As the New Year approached, I decided to submit my idea for these functional stationery products to UAL’s Not Just A Shop, with the hope of securing some valuable support in getting these products out into the world, whilst generating some well needed income.
Functional Fibres
During a regular trip to Grasmere earlier this year, I picked up some beautiful Herwick tops, which had been stored away all summer waiting for a flash of inspiration. A warm feeling in the pit of my stomach emerged, as I came across them during a sort through some boxes. I decided to play around with the wool using a felting needle, and see what I could come up with.
Exploring Raw Materials Pt.2
I noticed the colour of the mortar mix begin to lighten as the moisture evaporated. When the colour of the top section appeared more uniformal, I decided to unwrap the lego mould from the concrete. I was pretty nervous, but simultaneously excited to see the results. Would it be dry properly? Would it collapse or break whilst removing the mould?
Exploring Raw Materials
Since being drawn to the demolition site in Warrington, I have been keen to explore the parallels with our fragmented society. To begin with, I decided to recreate a section of the building in the original image.
A Risk Set in Stone
I felt quite excited by the task of taking a risk; the welcome encouragement to try something new, experiment, like being given permission to play. This turned out to be one of the best opportunities I could have been given, and for reasons I least expected.
