Yesterday, I had my interview day with Cumbria University for Secondary Art & Design PGCE with QTS. I wasn’t looking forward to it particularly, as it was scheduled to run over the entire day, consisting of an introduction to the course and the day, a literacy task, a micro-teach and finally the interview.
I had mentioned it to Jonathan during our tutorial on Monday and he gave me some great ideas to work with for the micro-teach. I opted for an introduction to Anna Atkins – the 19th century botanist and photographer. I begin with a task that asked about the notion of blueprints, followed by some analysis of blueprints, cyanotypes and a demonstration at the end of me using my UV lamp to process a cyanotype.

I was really pleased with the positive response and this set me up for a positive interview I felt. I should hear back within a week or so, but I feel it went well overall and I’m excited about the idea of finally undertaking my teaching qualification in September but also all the experimenting and practice with cyanotypes over the next few months and hopefully beyond!
